Since I was very young, I have always loved creating art. I was fascinated that I had the ability to imagine anything in the world and translate that into a visual version. As I’ve gotten older, my love of art has only grown. In middle school and into high school, my favorite art style was sketching in pencil, which helped me learn shading and how to highlight the details of my pieces. After a portrait project in my sophomore year, I began to experiment with the daunting medium of paint. Despite my initial frustration, I quickly learned to love the freedom and possibilities that painting afforded. Along with this newfound interest, I realized the types of subjects and compositions I enjoy depicting. I started experimenting with items and moments that convey femininity and identity. In my swimsuit painting, I love how you can see the different personalities and characteristics of the bikini owners without them being present in the painting. I also experimented with this idea in the context of nostalgia. In my Lego painting, as well as the “Tea Time” piece, I explore the idea of girlhood, the connection between femininity and childhood. I'm excited to continue exploring these ideas and pushing myself to explore new mediums, techniques, and subjects.

In the future, I know that no matter what, I will keep making art. I’m planning on minoring in Visual Arts in college, as I have come to realize how amazing it is to have a space to learn about and create art outside of my personal life. I am also looking forward to learning more about other artists’ work and even gaining insight into the process of displaying art in museums and galleries. I am currently taking AP Art History at Tam, and I am planning on majoring in Art History in college, where I will be able to explore this even more.
