My artwork is primarily colored pencil-based, a medium I’ve grown deeply connected to since seventh grade. Over the years, I’ve developed both skill and passion for it, going through phases of love and frustration as I explored its possibilities. Most of the pieces in this collection focus on time and detail, with four out of five being self-portraits that capture different stages of my growth. While all of them were created for my AP portfolio, they also reflect something deeply personal: a sense of nostalgia that aims to evoke both joy and melancholy. The final piece in my portfolio is a drawing of a pomegranate. Unlike the others, it’s not a portrait, but it holds just as much significance. While I love the challenge of capturing facial expressions and skin tones, I also find joy in drawing fruits and vegetables. This piece brought me comfort through the slow, meditative process of shading each seed and perfecting the fruit’s textured skin.
As I near the end of my senior year, time feels like it’s slipping by faster than ever. There’s a bittersweet mix of excitement for what’s ahead and sadness for what I’m leaving behind. Creating these drawings has been a powerful emotional outlet, allowing me to process my growth, reflect on my childhood, and honor moments I know I can never return to. Looking ahead to college, I plan to minor in fine art. Drawing has been a constant in my life for the past twelve years, and its impact is too meaningful to let go. I’m eager to continue refining my technique, exploring new mediums, and evolving as an artist throughout my higher education journey.
